Ashby Street Pastors

“Street Pastors is about Christians rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in practically responding to the problems of crime and safety. They are like beacons on our streets and I want to see them shining brightly in every constituency.”
David Burrowes, Patron of Ascension Trust

Ashby Street Pastors launched in January 2010. We are out in Ashby Town Centre on Market Street and surrounding streets; we’re also around the Hood Park Leisure Centre and Bath Grounds. We go out in either a team of three or four between 9.30 pm and 3.00 am on Friday and Saturday nights. During the summer months we are out between 6.30 pm – 11.00 pm on Fridays.

For the last 10 years St Helen’s has actively supported the work of the Ashby Street Pastors with regular prayer, finance and helping individual members of the congregation discern their calling to become Street Pastors. The role is one of simply caring, listening and helping with no preaching! Every member is equipped for the role with a training course and a uniform.

It is safe, we have fun, and we meet lots of nice people. Quite a few people always say ‘oh I couldn’t do that it's too dangerous’. We have a Safe Standard Operating Procedures and work with CCTV, radios, and the door staff. If you’re between 18 and 80+ ! yes we have one Street Pastor who is in their early eighties!
