Festival of Archaeology Children's Workshop
"Churchyard Detectives" - Monday 20th July from 10 am - 1 pm
What can churchyards tell us about what people believed in the past?
What does a snake on a memorial mean?
Why were residents of Ashby terrified of their body being stolen after death?
Come along to this family-friendly event to find out more!
Complete our churchyard trail and then pop into the Heritage Centre for coffin decorating, grotesque making and more.
This event, run by Dr Rachel Askew, is being held in conjunction by Our Digital Ancestors, a project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to record burial grounds across England and tell the stories of the people buried there.
The event is aimed at KS1 & KS2 children, though younger children are welcome.
Children must be accompanied by a parent/ carer. Arrive and take part at any point between 10 am and around 12.30 pm (event ends at 1 pm).
Free event, donations welcome. Refreshments available in the Heritage Centre. Any enquiries, please email heritage@sthelensashby.net
